OUR INSTALLATION PROCESS

1) Installation

With an accepted filing, we can now install your system. Our team will ensure a timely and safe installation of your new septic system.

2) TESTING

After the system has been installed, we test it to ensure its functionality. Final measurements are taken and we document the location and specifications of the system for the “as built” drawings.

3) BACKFILL & GRADE

Once the testing and documentation process in complete, we backfill and final grade the area around the system and its components to ensure a neat and presentable final product.

4) REGISTRATION PACKAGE

The final stage of the process is to assemble a registration package. This will contain a maintenance plan, operation manual, as built specifications and a letter of certification. The package is presented to you and a copy to be filed with the local health authority.

WHAT CAN I PUT INTO MY SEPTIC SYSTEM?

This is one of our most common questions. We often say, “If you wouldn’t put it in your body, don’t put it into your septic.” There are some exceptions to this rule, for instance laundry detergent and soap. In reasonable quantities laundry would do little harm to the function of your septic system, however excessive amounts of bleach and detergent can harm the bacteria that facilitates the decomposition within the septic tank and in doing so, inhibit the intended function of the system.

DO I NEED A SAND MOUND?

Sand mounds are dispersal systems that generally sit above grade and are installed due to less than suitable conditions of the native soil. Much of the Fraser valley is build on low permeability soils such as clay, during seasons of higher precipitation you can generally find ponding and ground water lying on the surface. Effluent requires filtering through 60-90cm of unsaturated native soils before it can be considered treated. If the soil shows signs of saturation before the 60-90cm of depth, the grade will have to be raised to accommodate for proper filtration and treatment before mixing with groundwater. Generally we can tell if a sand mound is required when we dig the test pits and observe the soil properties and signs of the seasonal high water table.

ISN’T A SEPTIC SYSTEM JUST A TANK AND SOME PIPE IN THE GROUND?

We’ve heard this a few times. Though a septic system can appear to be something fairly simple, the process of determining what type of system, treatment level and dispersal is actually an engineering function that requires either an professional engineer or ROWP planner to design and draft. Many factors including soil type and percolation rates, available area and grade of the land all play into the system design.
Once a system is designed, the installation costs are mainly made up of the components and materials required to build the system as well as the heavy machinery required to install those components. Generally, an excavator is required to dig the area for the tanks to be installed at specified elevations. Many systems have pumps, panels, float trees or transducers that require a certified electrician to connect as well as specified aggregates for the drain field and for the tank bedding that have to be trucked in. At Customline we have our own trucks, excavators and operators and ROWP planners in house enabling us to have more competitive pricing and better timelines for system design and installations.
